Event Details

Join the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and choose between two engaging sessions. Note: Individuals and families are encouraged to register for the session that best fits the participants comfort level and needs (see descriptions below). Session 1: Hands-On Activities & Demonstration
9:45am-11am (Two 30-minute workshops with a break)

Howdy, partners! Come join us for a whimsical performance by a string quartet (two violins, viola, cello) as our musicians give you a whole new perspective on farm life. Listen to their joyful music as it incorporates animals and life on the farm. Then explore a variety of musical instruments through hands-on activities, games, and sound experiments.

Session 2: Performance
11:30am-12:30pm

Did you ever wonder how musicians work together to play incredible music? Our wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn) will perform together and explain how they work together to capture a balance of music and tones.

Sensory-Friendly/Relaxed Programming and Resources

Sensory-Friendly/Relaxed performances and events are designed to create a performing arts experience that is welcoming to individuals with intellectual disabilities, have sensory needs, or who are looking for a judgement-free environment. These events welcome individuals to attend independently or with family members, friends, or support people.

Slight adjustments to the production are made and accommodations for these performances and events will include:

Lower sound level, especially for startling or loud sounds
Lights remain on at a low level in the theater during the performance
A reduction of strobe lighting or lighting focused on the audience
Patrons are free to talk and leave their seats during the performance
Patrons are allowed to bring in outside food and drinks into the theater
Designated quiet areas within the theater, staffed with autism specialists
Space throughout the theater for standing and movement
Limited crowds and visitors at the The Bushnell during the day and timing of the performance
Bushnell staff and volunteers trained to be inviting and accommodating to families' needs
