Theater Etiquette FAQs

We strive to create an enjoyable and respectful environment for all patrons, performers, and staff. To ensure the best possible experience for everyone, we kindly ask that all guests follow our theater etiquette guidelines.

Arrival & Seating

  • Please arrive on time. The performance start time is listed on your ticket. Lobbies open two hours prior to most performances and theater seating begins 30 minutes prior to the event's start time.
  • Many shows have policies that require us to hold late patrons in the lobby until a specified point in the show. As a result, late seating may be restricted and is at the discretion of the production. For your convenience, closed circuit televisions are located in the lobbies.
  • If you must leave your seat during the performance, please do so quietly. Re-entry may also be restricted and is at the discretion of the production.

Respect for Performers & Fellow Patrons

  • Respect the performers and other audience members by refraining from talking, whispering, making excessive noise or singing (unless permitted by the show) during the performance.
  • If you would like assistance with a disruption in the theater, please let a Front of House staff in a gray blazer or volunteer in a gray vest know about the disturbance. They are trained to handle these situations. If you create a disturbance and have not complied with Front of House requests, you may be asked to leave the theater. Your ticket will not be refunded.
  • Refrain from wearing scents including aftershaves, colognes, and perfumes.

Cellphones & Electronic Devices

  • Silence or turn off all mobile devices, smartwatches, and other electronics before the performance begins.
  • Texting, taking photos, and recording audio or video are strictly prohibited during performances unless otherwise specified. A production may require patrons to delete unauthorized recordings.
  • If you need to use your device for accessibility reasons, please be discreet and lower the brightness.

Photography & Recording

  • Unauthorized photography, video recording, and audio recording are strictly prohibited. A production may require patrons to delete unauthorized recordings.
  • Flash photography can be distracting and is not permitted under any circumstances.
  • Some productions may allow photography at designated times—please follow the guidelines provided.

Food & Beverages

  • Patrons may bring (1) one sealed bottle of water in a 16 oz or smaller container or an empty non-glass water bottle to fill at water fountains in the building.
  • Café food and concessions are permitted in the theater and available for purchase in the lobbies.
  • All other outside food and beverages are not permitted in the theater, unless otherwise specified.

Children & Family-Friendly Considerations

  • All guests, including lap children, must have a ticket. Contact the Box Office for assistance purchasing these tickets.
  • Please ensure children are able to sit quietly throughout the performance; if they become restless or disruptive, feel free to step out of the theater. The Bushnell staff reserves the right to ask any parents/guardians whose children cause disruptions during a performance to leave the theater.
  • Some performances may not be suitable for young children; please check the event’s recommended age guidelines before purchasing tickets.

Emergency Procedures

  • In case of an emergency, follow all instructions from theater staff and proceed calmly to the nearest exit.
  • Do not block aisles or exits at any time.

Purchasing from Unauthorized Ticket Sellers

  • Don’t Get Scammed – Protect Yourself From Third-Party Vendors!
  • The Bushnell Box Office, bushnell.org, and your Bushnell Ticketing Account are the only authorized sellers for Bushnell tickets.
  • Notice the signs of scams. Does the ticket price seem high? Is crucial information like seat number or row missing from the listing? Does the address bar on your screen say something that’s not bushnell.org or bushnell.evenue.net? If you answered yes to any of these questions, do not (we repeat – DO NOT) buy the tickets! Have questions about suspicious listings online? Give us a call at 860.987.5900 before adding to your cart to avoid any buyer’s remorse.
  • If you purchase tickets from another source, such as Vivid Seats, Ticketcenter.com, Ticketsales.com, Ticketmaster, GoTickets, or any other unauthorized reseller, you risk that these tickets are fake, void, or have previously been canceled. Ticket buyers who purchase tickets from a ticket broker or any third party should be aware that The Bushnell is unable to reprint, refund, replace, or exchange lost or stolen tickets and is unable to contact patrons with information regarding time changes or other pertinent updates regarding the performance.
  • Unauthorized sale, resale, or attempted resale using any other method is in violation of The Bushnell’s Ticketing Policy and may result in seizure and cancellation without compensation.
