Hartford, CT – August 18, 2009 – The moving performance Letters Home, based on letters from actual soldiers currently fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, will take place in The Bushnell’s Belding Theater on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. While making no political statement, this eloquent production reveals a poignant and powerful oral history of the modern day American soldier. Letters Home is part of the Robinson & Cole Family Series.
Tickets for Letters Home go on sale Monday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. and can be purchased by visiting The Bushnell Box Office in person, by phone at 860-987-5900, or online at www.bushnell.org. Tickets are $20.00. This show is appropriate for teens 14 and up.
Letters Home is inspired by the New York Times article, The Things They Wrote, the HBO documentary, Last Letters Home, and additionally uses letters and correspondences from Frank Schaeffer’s books, Voices From the Front, Letters Home From America’s Military Family, Faith of Our Sons, and Keeping Faith. The correspondences in the show not only represent letters from soldiers home to their families, but also their parents letters back to them, which hold equal significance. The production seeks to help define patriotism and what it means to serve our country today, through acts of bravery, compassion, social responsibility, sense of community and humanity from the perspective of the men and women who are on the frontlines and those that are closest to them.
