October 29, 2007— The Fifth Annual Heart Gallery in Connecticut, a unique Adoption awareness-raising art exhibit, will open at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, Promenade Gallery, 166 Capitol Avenue, Hartford on November 6 and run through December 21. This event is sponsored by The Department of Children and Families and The Connecticut Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents.
The Exhibit will be open to the public prior to every performance during the holiday season and can be viewed by appointment by calling Gwen Howard at The Bushnell, 860-987-6033.
The goal of the Heart Gallery is to increase awareness of adoption during November, National Adoption Awareness Month, and to find families for many children who are presently in the state’s care and waiting for a “forever family”.
The Heart Gallery is a photographic journey of the heart ~ a visually stunning and emotional exhibit of powerful portraits that capture the essence and beauty of children who are in state custody in Connecticut and want a permanent family. There are no adoption fees for families who adopt these children.
Also, for the third year, photos from the Heart Gallery will be exhibited throughout the state of Connecticut at various locations.
According to David Fay, The Bushnell’s President and CEO, The Bushnell’s Promenade Gallery, which regularly features local artists, is the perfect venue for this exhibit. “So much of what The Bushnell stands for relates to family. Encouraging appreciation of music, art and science are not only bedrock to our mission but also instrumental in the successful development of children. Hosting the Heart Gallery is a natural extension of our service to children, and we’re proud to have been selected as the launch site for 2007.”
The Heart Gallery is a collaborative effort of many different individuals and organizations, all working together to insure that all children find the permanent, loving families that they need and deserve. Numerous professional photographers throughout Connecticut have donated their time and talent to create beautiful portraits of children who are dreaming of finding a family.
