Let’s Go Fly A Kite
Using a free kite kit provided by The Bushnell, kids can assemble & decorate their own flying creations. Weather permitting they can stroll down to Bushnell Park and “send them soaring!” Also, the first 100 families to arrive will receive a free Mary Poppins logo kite.

Disney Cabaret
From the Great Hall balcony, Ensign-Darling Vocal Fellows will give free recitals of Disney music.

Step In Time
Kids of all ages can gather in the courtyard, learn a little choreography, and then dance along to a famous Mary Poppins song.

Chalk Drawings

• Professional chalk muralist Tracy Lee Stum will create a spectacular 3D mural at the entrance to the Bushnell courtyard. The mural will depict famous Broadway characters - including Mary Poppins - enjoying Bushnell Park as it might look like in years to come, thanks to the iQuilt Plan (www.theiQuiltPlan.org). Kids and parents alike will then be able to step into the mural and take pictures in the Bushnell Park of tomorrow.

• Families will have an opportunity to sketch their own chalk drawings on the Capitol Avenue sidewalk in front of The Bushnell.

Sing-Along Film Screening
Families can gather in The Bushnell’s Belding Theatre and sing along to a free screening of the film version of Mary Poppins – complete with on-screen lyrics. There are no tickets required for the film, it is free and open to the public. Sing along will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Bushnell Park Carousel and Memorial Arch will open for business and tours.

The voice and soul of a true American poet have illuminated the work of Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Art Garfunkel for nearly five decades. 

It is there on record – the Simon & Garfunkel LPs of 1964 to 1970 on Columbia, and his deep catalog as a solo artist starting in 1973 – as well as in film, and on the printed page (his 1987 collection of prose poetry, Still Water).

Emmy Award and Grammy Award winning comedian Louis C.K. – creator, executive producer, director, editor, and star of FX Network’s critically acclaimed series Louie – will perform a special engagement, Louis C.K. at The Bushnell, November 8 at 7PM.

In a statement on louisck.com from Louis, “This year, I'm trying something new, building on the fun, success and fan-benifit of selling my content online… I've cut the ticket charges way down and absorbed them into the ticket price. Back in December, 2011 Louis released his last standup special, Louis C.K. Live At the Beacon Theatre, directly to consumers through his website for $5. The move was hailed as groundbreaking and was a tremendous success. He has since added additional content to the site including audio downloads of WORD-LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL and SHAMELESS.

Louis was nominated for four 2011 Emmy Awards for Louie, which will have its season premiere on Thursday, June 28 at 10:30 PM, and his standup special Hilarious including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special. He recently won four awards at the 2012 Comedy Awards including Sketch Alternative Comedy Series and Comedy Directing TV for Louie, as well as Comedy Special of the Year and “Stand Up Tour” for Live at the Beacon Theatre. Louie was honored on many year-end top 10 lists including AFI, Time, Entertainment Weekly and dozens of others. Hilarious was also honored with a 2012 Grammy for Best Comedy Album.

The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to announce the tenth annual concert of the Ensign-Darling Vocal Fellowship will be held at The Bushnell’s Belding Theater on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

The 2011-2012 Ensign-Darling Vocal Fellows include Nick Bayer of South Windsor, Julianne Daly of Burlington, Reagan Henke of Avon; Jessa Sahl of Avon, Kathleen Walsh of Manchester, and Miles Wilson-Toliver of Meriden. The concert will feature the current class of fellows, in addition to alumni from the first ten years of the program. 

The Vocal Fellowship is a full scholarship program for a small number of very talented young singers interested in classical and musical theatre repertoire. The Ensign-Darling Vocal Fellowship provides conservatory-like training for high school students with tuition-free instruction in voice, vocal coaching and musical skills. Master Classes are held monthly with industry professionals. Fellows perform annually throughout the school year in addition to the formal concert at The Bushnell in June.

Founded in 2002 by Bob Darling, a member of the Bushnell Board of Trustees at the time, the Vocal Fellowship has provided training for more than 35 students. Darling’s passion for vocal music and nurturing of young talent was evident as he attended auditions, master classes, and rehearsals, and hosted an annual dinner for the fellows and their families. In 2006, Bob made a substantial commitment to the program by establishing a fund to provide for the Vocal Fellowship for the next 20 years. Past fellows came together to sing and pay tribute to Bob Darling at his memorial service in 2009 and continue to honor their mentor as many progress in professional music careers.

The hit TLC show Long Island Medium premiered in September 2011 to rave reviews and a loyal following. In late March, TLC launched a new season of Long Island Medium in prime time. The show follows Theresa's life as a psychic medium and the unique challenges it creates for her husband of 22 years, Larry, and two children, aged 17 and 21.

Theresa has been a practicing medium for 10 years and is a certified medium with the Forever-Family Foundation, an organization dedicated to connecting science with the afterlife.
